High Performance, Compact Design
At the heart of this water heater is Lochinvar's unique Power-Fin heat exchanger. Using a special process, the wall of a copper tube is extruded into fins, increasing the surface area of the tube and resulting in a heat transfer ratio 9 times greater than ordinary copper.
The straight-finned copper tubes are secured in a circular ASME grade cast iron headers to create the combustion chamber around the 360° Power Burner. The flame is completely surrounded, allowing every heating dollar to go directly into producing hot water--for unsurpassed efficiency.
There's no need for bulky insulating materials, making the Power-Fin smaller and lighter. In fact, our 1,000,000 BTU model weighs less than 800 pounds. And it's approved for zero clearance to combustible surfaces.
Venting Options
Conventional Vent: Power-Fin may be vented into a conventional flue or vent breaching if it is convenient and cost-effective using Category II venting material.
Through-Wall Vent: Provides a quick and easy means of installation when no vent stack is readily available.
Horizontal Direct Vent/Sealed Combustion: Combustion air is drawn into the heater from out-of-doors, then exhaust is vented back out through the same wall. Especially good for contaminated indoor air situations.
Vertical Direct Vent/Sealed Combustion: Provides the advantages of direct venting in a vertical configuration.
Outdoor: Use when space is not available or when outdoor location provides better access to hot water point-of-use.
*Note: Unit should not be installed under an overhang.
Greater Safety And Reliability
Thanks to its high water flow and straight-finned solid copper, the Power-Fin isn't subjected to the lime scale build-up that decreases the efficiency of conventional water heaters over time. The cast iron headers are protected against corrosion by a special coating.
What's more, to ensure years of trouble-free operation, every major function of the water heater is monitored and controlled by a convenient plug-in control panel with advanced diagnostic features. It not only warns against system failure, it can actually pinpoint the source of any problems. And a convenient built-in temperature-resistant glass viewing port allows for visual checks of ignition and burner operation.
