      Our History

      1946
      James "Big Jim" Pleasants returns from WWII and begins his career in North Carolina.

      1951
      Big Jim enters the HVAC industry as a salesperson for P.L. Guest Sales Company, representing Bell & Gossett (B&G).

      1958
      James M. Pleasants Company (JMP) is founded as the manufacturers’ representative for B&G in the Carolinas and Eastern Tennessee.

      1960s
      JMP expands its territories and product offerings, adding lines like McDonnell & Miller, Hoffman Pump, and Hoffman Specialty after B&G’s acquisition by ITT Corp.

      1988
      JMP transitions to employee ownership through an Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP) following Big Jim's death. Chris Edmonson becomes president.

      2000s-Present
      Expansion across the Southeast, with operations in North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Georgia, Alabama, and Florida with representation of nearly 50 product lines.

      Active involvement in ASHRAE, earning awards like the Golden Circle Award for contributions to research.

      Branded education for JMP Academy, offering free educational opportunities for HVAC and hydronic systems professionals.

      JMP is building a new 200,000 square-foot headquarters in Greensboro, marking the next chapter in the company's long history.
